Dear Ray Families,
My name is Ms. Chapman, and I am so pleased to announce that I will be teaching special education for grades kindergarten through third grade. Next year will be my seventh year as a Special Education Teacher for Chicago Public Schools and my fourth year as a Special Education teacher at Ray Elementary School. I strongly believe in a workshop model of teaching that allows children to develop mastery of content through inquiry based learning as well as opportunities for small group guided instruction. I have a strong background in direct phonics reading instruction and I have received my training in both the Orton Gillingham approach to reading as well as the Wilson Reading System. I look forward to getting to know your child, working collaboratively with their instructors, creating an environment for them with consistent routines and procedures to maximize instructional time, and providing them rigorous instruction that not only allows them to meet their IEP goals and benchmarks but access general education content to the highest extent. I truly believe that all children can learn and succeed and I look forward to a year filled with success and celebrations. It is a privilege to be a part of the Ray teaching family and I look forward to working with your child.
Sincerely,
Ms. Chapman
